Despite only spending two seasons as Manager of Chelsea football club, Antonio Conte made a lasting impression at the club. In his first season he turned a team who finished in 10th place the previous season under Jose Mourinho into title winners. However in his second season things started going down hill and they looked again like the team managed under Mourinho.
A few squad members fell out with Conte during his tenor at the club, David Luiz springs to mind, however Willian also clashed with Conte despite being a regular under the Italian, both men certainly did not see eye to eye.
Willian meanwhile famously posted a photo on his Instagram story of last seasons FA Cup celebrations and where he covered up Conte with trophy emojis to remove him from the picture. Since then he did blame that on his daughter by saying she stole his phone.
During an interview with Brazilian TV show Resenha he suggested that he hopes Maurizio Sarri is “not the same as Conte”.
“I’m joking, I think Conte was a manager, for me, particularly, very difficult to work with. His philosophy, his logistics, to manage there, is very complicated,” he said.
“I’ve had some games that you don’t understand, you’re playing very well and are taken out, you don’t understand, twice I headed out of the game and went straight to the dressing room.
“So it was a bit difficult working with him. But in life we learn from that too.”
Willian has been linked with a move away from the club but its believed he is not for sale and is seen as a key member of Sarri’s squad for the upcoming season.
