While the world record fee for a goalkeeper was broken twice and over £1.2b was spent on transfers, there was still plenty of big-money trasnfers that didn’t actually cross he line.

Here, we pick out some of the biggest transfers that got away..

Godin, Maguire,Boateng and Alderweireld to Man Utd

It was a deadline day to forget for Manchester United, they did not complete any transfers and deals for their main targets faded away.

A surprise move for Atletico madrid defender Diego Godin broke down immediately when it become clear the Uruguayan’s agent were using United to help him sign a new deal with the Spanish giants.

Leicester’s Maguire was keep on a move to United

Harri Maguire was a target for Manchester United the whole transfer window, however after United had two bids rejected it was clear that he would be staying at Leicester City.

As for Jerome Boateng and Alderweireld, both players stayed at their clubs despite a continuous interest from United. No official bids were made for the defenders on deadline day.

Grealish to Tottenham

After a successful season with Villa in the Championship, Jack Grealish attracted the attention of the North London Club. With Aston Villa falling to financial problems it looked like their prize asset would leave for Spurs.

However after the arrival of a new owner, the Birmingham based club were able to reject a deal of around £25m from Spurs on Wednesday. Despite Grealish wanting to leave the club, Tottenham did not return with a higher bid for the player.

Zinchenko to Wolves

Wolves showed big interest throughout the summer for Oleksandr Zinchenko, the Ukranian was part of manchester City’s Title winning squad of last season and the club were prepared to let him leave this summer.

However, after a 16 million bid was accepted for the player, he opted to reject a contract with the Club and stay with Manchester City.
